Anniversary passport: 850,000th passport of the new generation ceremonially handed over
Since December 2023, Austria has been issuing its new passports with the latest security features. In the first year since the introduction of the new passport, 850,000 have already been issued. The 850,000th passport of the new generation was ceremonially handed over to its proud owner, Pia H. during a festive ceremony in the Austrian Ministry of Interior.
Since the introduction of the new passport generation in December 2023, only passports from the new generation have been issued. The design of the new Austrian passport has been completely revised and modern security features have been integrated. The data page of the new Austrian passport is now entirely made of polycarbonate, providing high protection against manipulation and forgery. In addition to many other security features, modern high-tech security elements such as a laser perforated image and a laser tilted feature are also integrated within the new passport. The personal passport photo is now included eight times (both visible and invisible) within the passport, providing even stronger protection.
Austrian Minister of the Interior, Mr. Gerhard Karner and General Director of the Austrian State Printing House, Mr. Helmut Lackner personally handed over the 850,000th jubilee passport to its proud owner, Mrs. Pia H. The good cooperation between Austrian public services, the Austrian law enforcement, and the Austrian State Printing House (OSD) during the development and issuance of the new Austrian passport was emphasized. With the introduction of the new passport, Austria is setting a new standard for security and innovation in ID documents and now has one of the most modern identity documents in the world.
